Oman's Agriculture Market Set to Reach $3.2bn by 2031 as Investment Opportunities Expand

Oman's agriculture market is projected to grow from $2.6 billion in 2026 to $3.2 billion by 2031, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.14%. The sector remains a key pillar of the Sultanate's economic diversification strategy, food security agenda and Oman Vision 2040, with the combined value of agricultural and livestock production exceeding $1.56 billion.

Strategic Regions Drive Agricultural Investment

Oman continues to position itself as an attractive destination for foreign investment in agriculture and fisheries through policies supporting sustainable development and food security.

Among the country's leading agricultural regions:

Al Batinah benefits from fertile farmland and proximity to major urban centres.
Dhofar offers favourable climatic conditions and seasonal rainfall suitable for a wider variety of crops.
Al Sharqiyah provides productive agricultural land, experienced farming communities and efficient access to ports, making it another attractive investment destination.

Greenhouse Farming Gains Momentum

Greenhouse agriculture is emerging as one of Oman's fastest-growing investment opportunities due to its ability to reduce water consumption while supporting year-round production. Controlled growing environments deliver higher yields per square metre and maintain consistent crop quality regardless of seasonal conditions.

The systems also integrate advanced technologies such as hydroponics, climate control and smart monitoring, improving productivity and resource efficiency.

Government Focuses on Sustainable Food Systems

Oman is investing in sustainable food production to strengthen domestic output, reduce dependence on imports and improve food security. Programmes implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) support farmers through capacity building, consumer awareness initiatives and upgrades across the national food value chain.

Export Potential Strengthens Investment Appeal

Crop farming remains one of the most scalable investment opportunities, with strong demand for dates, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, leafy vegetables and selected tropical fruits.

Oman's strategic location, together with its ports and free zones, provides efficient access to GCC, Asian and African markets, enhancing the export potential of greenhouse and commercial farming projects.

Investment Incentives Under Oman Vision 2040

The Sultanate continues to attract agricultural investors through a range of incentives, including:

100% foreign ownership
Corporate tax exemptions of five to ten years for eligible food and agro-processing projects
Strategic agricultural investment zones
Support for smart farming technologies
Long-term residency pathways for investors

Oman's broader investment climate is also strengthening, with foreign direct investment reaching approximately $83.6 billion by early 2026, reinforcing the country's position as a leading regional investment destination under Oman Vision 2040.
